Good Luck....Sushi restaurants are always kinda tricky....|||I am not a sushi fan but try going to L.A. weekly and looking at the sushi reviews. Also try going into Little Tokyo and just dropping in to a restaurant. Shabu Shabu in Hollywood has ok sushi.|||i hope that this will restore your faith in people.
there is a place in north Hollywood named CHIBA, located on lankershim@ saticoy. A little hole in the wall but the best sushi i have ever had. you might try a place named BROTHERS on ventura blvd, woodland hills?,great sushi but it has been a few years since i was last there so not sure if it is still open|||Sushi Dan's in Studio City is quite good! They also have a location in Hollywood. I don't know much in the valley areas. My choices for sushi would be Katana on Sunset or Sushi Roku on 3rd.
I have to comment on you Benihana reference. Benihana is not a sushi restaurant....and I really don't even consider it a real Japanese restaurant =o)~
