Seeking weekend trip ideas in California?

I live in the North Bay Area and I am spontaneously planning a road trip for this weekend with friends. I am looking for any suggestions for a destination and things to do. We would likely spend one full day at this destination, with one meal done at a nice/fun restaurant.

Help me out-- suggest a destination AND things to do, sites to see, cool places to eat, potential nightlife ideas, etcetera.

Example...

"Go to San Francisco. Take the Ferry into the City. Check out Pier 39, and the DeYoung museum. For dinner-- Benihana's! Next day, Anchor Steam Brewery Tour. Roll to neighboring Berkeley for a Cal Basketball game. Enjoy!"

All well thought out answers are appreciated. Thanks!|||Day 1 - Spend a day @ the newly opened Academy of Science in San Francisco! Have dinner @ the Embarcadero @ Palomino's, with a stunning view of the Bay! (Kind of pricey, but delicious food %26amp; great view!) Walk around the Embarcadero/Fisherman's Wharf area %26amp; take pictures of the beautiful scenary. End your night at Club Suite 181 (21+), where it's always a party there! Or you can visit the many bars around Union Street or Geary Blvd..

Day 2 - Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. You can spend atleast 3 hours there. Right around the corner is a big Westfield Mall and across the street from that is Santana Row, where you will find tons of designer stores %26amp; great restaurants! Westfield Mall also has Cheesecake Factory, one of my fave places to eat! You can stop by the International Car Show , which will be in San Jose this weekend and that will be atleast another 4 hours! They preview the newest and hottest cars. I believe admission's only $8! You can end your night in Downtown San Jose where there's plenty of bars/clubs/restaurants!|||You're welcome - have a great weekend!!

|||Drive up 101, then take Highway 20 over to Fort Bragg. Explore the town (historic sites, cute shops, etc.). Go horseback riding on the beach. Check out the Glass Beach; visit Noyo Harbor %26amp; arrange for a whale watching boat trip if you like. A good place to eat is Silvers at the Wharf (great clam chowder!)

Next day, put together a picnic lunch at Harvest Market %26amp; start down Highway 1. Stop in at the Mendocino Botanical Gardens (the only BG in the U.S. with an ocean view).

Continue down Highway 1, stopping at State Parks, little towns %26amp; hamlets Caspar, (Little River, Albion, Elk, Point Arena, Gualala, Bodega Bay), beaches - whatever catches your attention.

Be sure to spend some time at Mendocino Village on the Headlands - enjoy the little shops, the Victorian %26amp; Saltbox homes, the historic water towers; hike the headlands %26amp; enjoy the views. Visit the Pygmy Forest. See http://www.discovernortherncalifornia.co鈥?/a> for more information about what there is to see %26amp; do.

Continue South, back to the Bay Area, enjoying the sights!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, whatever you decide to do!!
