What is a cheaper alternative to Mirin?

I'm planning to cook Teriyaki for a fundraiser and I'm trying to cut back where I can. Hope someone can help. It's for the Benihana Teriyaki Sauce. Thanks!|||Mirin is not rice vinegar, but rather, rice wine. You can buy cheap sake and add sugar, honey, or agave nectar to a slightly syrupy consistency and you have a good equivalent.|||Substitutes: 1 tablespoon dry sherry + 陆 teaspoon sugar

OR sherry

OR heat two parts sake and one part sugar

OR white wine + sugar to taste

OR white wine|||Rice vinegar is also a good alternative. Cutting back on the mirin is not all that cost effective. Spend the few more cents, its worth it.|||plain rice vinegar with a little sugar added.|||cooking wine
